Maybe it's my comfort zone but I much preferred your previous blogs/e-mails where the content was in the message rather having to visit your site. The new method makes it much harder to forward your valuable stuff.

Great perceptions! This age of interdependency offers unlimited collaboration and full utilization of everyone's skill and talent.

You two both make great points. I see too many clients and Vistage members who lead an unintentionally "delusional" life. They think they have been clear and that they have been heard in the way they intended. What's worse, they may not have included the recipient in their thought process, solicited their feedback, or checked for connection. Our Operating Principles of "be responsible for what gets heard" and "explore truths - mine, theirs and ours" never even hit the radar screen! Thanks for posting!

Dwight, great post.

When leaders let go of what they think the outcome should be and include their team members in creating what something could be, the results are more often than not innovative and larger than life. Team performanceis is greatly enhanced.

Leaders who know they need the creative flare of great people around them and then allow those team members to do what they do best the organization has a much better chance of surviving and thriving in all economical environments.

Dwight,

You make an increasingly important point about the clarity of expectations. That clarity is more important today more than ever before, since so many companies are virtualizing operations. When workers are remote, the necessity of precision of expectations increases exponentially.

Dwight and Suzanne,

Thanks for the insightful blog. This generation is an explosion of creativity and innovation...and frustration for all of us who learned to "manage by walking around."

Just as former generations failed to understand the significance of Bob Dylan and the Beatles, if we fail to get this message, we miss a huge opportunity to connect on a meaningful level with the future leaders of the world.

David, thanks for your comment. Yes, it seems the military has moved into a creative role in the area of leadership thinking, training, practices, and learning. The business community would be well served to pay more attention to what's being taught and practiced!

Dwight,

As you know, I have advocated the idea of "Green Beret Leadership" as an alternative to the old command and control concept. The military has, amazingly, been at the forefront of a new, dynamic type of leadership.
